You’ve decided what you want for 2018, but what are you willing to do to achieve it? What changes will you make that will push you out of your comfort zone – to work a little harder – to have a little more discipline? How will you also include a little more self-love? How will you make your needs a priority?
I ask these questions because we set goals, but we may not realize that it takes time and effort to map out how we will achieve them. Losing weight has been my Resolution for the past few years, but I haven’t shed a pound because I don’t put the time or effort into organizing and creating new patterns to make it realistic. This year, I am focusing on eating vegetables and exercising every day. I’ve prepaved the way for success because I’ve been cooking a lot and enjoying the creativity of making delicious recipes to support a strong, healthy body. I’ve found Yoga and Barre classes that I’m excited about. Every day, I make my nutrition and exercise a priority. I map out the whole week, so I know where I need to be for my exercise classes and when I have time to food shop and cook. I’m not going to wake up at 6 am unprepared for breakfast or overwhelm myself at 10 pm when I’m exhausted to run to the grocery store.
My planning and personal needs are a priority, which is where self-love comes in. Of course I will not neglect any aspect of my life – the laundry can wait an extra day. I feel confident and inspired as the New Year comes, that I will successfully achieve my weight loss goals. And if I don’t – if I slip up – I will be gentle with myself and continue to map out what I need to do to be my Best Self.
